Gardens! Oh My!
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a vagabond, and want like an armed man.
Proverbs 6:10, 11
Garrison Keillor says that this is the only time of year in Lake Wobeggon that people lock their cars. They do this to keep people from leaving zucchini. If you have a garden, then you know how most of us plant too much and don’t want to waste the over production, so we try to give it away. The problem is that everyone else did the same thing.
No, the problem (above Bible verse) isn’t that we goof off too much. The problem is that most of us have a tendency to over work. So this is my permission to you to obey the Bible and goof off for a few weeks this summer. If you are a hard-working person, this Bible verse doesn’t apply to you anyway.
The lake, ocean, mountains, chair under the shade tree or local pond is calling your name. Please enjoy God’s good creation. Remember, a missed day of work will be there when you return, but a missed day off of fishing is gone forever.
